ISLAMABAD: Tensions between South Asia’s nuclear-armed rivals have sharply escalated following reports that Pakistani drones were sighted over New Delhi in the aftermath of a recent Pakistani military operation conducted deep inside Indian territory.
Sources report that multiple Pakistani-manufactured drones were seen hovering on the outskirts of the Indian capital late last night. In response, Indian security agencies have launched an investigation to determine the drones’ origin, purpose, and possible implications. Indian authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
This development follows Pakistan’s announcement of a targeted military strike on Indian military installations across the Line of Control. Pakistan’s military spokesperson described the operation as a “measured response” to what they alleged were repeated cross-border violations and attacks on civilian populations by Indian forces.
India’s Ministry of Defence has firmly denied these claims, asserting that there has been no breach of its territory and reaffirming its readiness to counter any hostile action.
Security experts suggest the drone activity could mark a move toward hybrid warfare, integrating conventional military tactics with surveillance and cyber capabilities. The incident has heightened concerns over the increasing use of unmanned aerial systems in regional conflict.
The international community has urged both nations to exercise restraint and engage in immediate dialogue to prevent a further escalation in a region already marked by long-standing hostilities.
