Anti-TTP Operations
Federal Minister of Defense Khawaja Asif has sharply criticized a recent resolution by the American House of Representatives, urging the US to address its internal issues before intervening in Pakistan’s affairs.
In an exclusive interview, Asif emphasized, “Uncle Sam should focus on fixing his own house and not worry about us.”
He revealed that Pakistan is actively conducting operations against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) within Afghan territory and intends to continue these efforts.
Asif justified this stance, stating, “If terrorists can attack Pakistan from Afghan soil, why should we not retaliate?”
Expressing frustration over Afghanistan’s lack of cooperation despite Pakistan’s longstanding support, Asif suggested a reassessment of Pakistan’s Afghan policy. He lamented, “We have extended significant assistance to Afghanistan, yet this is the gratitude we receive.”
Addressing the US resolution, Asif pointed out the contentious nature of American politics, highlighting allegations and controversies during US elections. “Before pointing fingers at us, America should scrutinize its own political landscape,” he asserted.
In another interview with Voice of America, Asif discussed Pakistan’s response to increased terrorist activities and stressed the need for political parties to unite for stability. While acknowledging political polarization, he underscored the importance of Operation Resolute in fostering national unity against terrorism.
Asif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to targeting TTP hideouts across borders and pledged transparency with political parties regarding the operation.
He expressed openness to parliamentary discussion on the operation, emphasizing the government’s determination to ensure stability and defeat terrorism.
Regarding past counterterrorism efforts, Asif critiqued the military-centric approach and advocated for greater civilian involvement. He stressed the importance of consensus-building and opposition consultation to achieve sustainable peace.
Asif also addressed concerns about the economic implications of anti-terrorism operations, noting that stability is essential for attracting foreign investment and fostering economic growth.
Highlighting Pakistan’s national integrity amid TTP activities, Asif condemned cross-border attacks as violations of international law. He underscored Operation Azm-e-Istehkam’s significance in maintaining peace and securing economic stability.
Finally, Asif discussed China’s security concerns and their implications for economic cooperation, expressing hope for enhanced bilateral relations.
Overall, Asif’s interviews underscore Pakistan’s strategic priorities in counterterrorism and regional stability amidst evolving geopolitical challenges.
