Newly-appointed Naval Chief Naveed Ashraf is to replace Amjad Niazi on Oct 7

ISLAMABAD: Vice Admiral Naveed Ashraf has been named as the new Naval Chief on Tuesday. A formal change of command ceremony is scheduled for October 7 in Islamabad.

Newly-appointed Naval Chief will replace the Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi, the incumbent Naval Chief.

Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Naveed Ashraf began his naval career in 1989 when he was commissioned into the operations branch of the navy.

He holds degrees from the National Defence University, the American Naval War College, and the Royal College of Defence Studies.

Over the course of his career, Vice Admiral Ashraf has held various key positions within the naval hierarchy, including Commander of the Pakistan Fleet and Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy.

He has also served as the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff in multiple capacities, overseeing operations, administration, and training and personnel.

Currently, he serves as the Chief of Staff at the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad.

Vice Admiral Naveed Ashraf will succeed Admiral M Amjad Khan Niazi, who assumed the position in October 2020.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa vows to conclude the hearing of the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act 2023 on Tue.

He said that the apex court could not prolong this case.

The full bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa resumed the hearing of the case. The full bench consists of 15 judges, including chief justice.

The court resumed the hearing of petitions challenging the SC (Practice and Procedure) Act on Tuesday. The state-run TV is showing live proceedings of the case.

The full court bench is composed of Chief Justice Isa, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Ayesha A. Malik, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Shahid Waheed, and Justice Musarrat Hilali.
