New Regulations Implemented for Vehicle Registration

ISLAMABAD: The Excise & Taxation department of Islamabad has announced significant updates to the rules governing vehicle registration and number plates, impacting both fees and penalties for non-compliance.

According to a spokesman for the ICT administration, the E&T department has implemented new regulations to address issues related to vehicle registration and number plates.

Under these revised rules, vehicles with non-standard number plates will face registration cancellations. Owners of such vehicles will be required to pay a re-registration fee to bring their plates into compliance with the new standards.

The re-registration fees vary based on engine size. For vehicles with engines up to 1,000 cc, the fee has been set at Rs 5,000.

Vehicles with engines ranging from 1,000 cc to 2,000 cc will incur a re-registration fee of Rs 10,000. Vehicles with engines exceeding 2,000 cc will face a higher fee of Rs 20,000.

Motorcycles are also included in these regulatory changes. The re-registration fee for motorcycles is set at Rs 1,000.

In cases where a vehicle is found in violation of the new rules more than once, the penalties will increase substantially. Repeat offenders will be required to pay five times the original re-registration fee.

These new measures are designed to standardize vehicle registration processes and ensure adherence to updated regulations.

By introducing these changes, the E&T department aims to improve the efficiency and consistency of vehicle registration and maintain better control over compliance. The adjustments are expected to enhance the overall management of vehicle registrations and number plate standards in the region.
