ISLAMABAD / KARACHI / PESHAWAR – In a major development for Pakistan’s judiciary, newly appointed chief justices for the Sindh, Peshawar, and Islamabad High Courts officially took oath of office on Wednesday. The ceremonies, held in their respective provinces, were attended by senior government officials, members of the judiciary, legal fraternity, and civil society.
Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar Takes Oath as Chief Justice of Sindh High Court
In Karachi, Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar was sworn in as the 26th Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Governor House, where Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori administered the oath. The appointment notification was read aloud by Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah.
The event drew a wide array of attendees, including Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, Inspector General of Police Sindh, senior judges, bar association representatives, diplomats, and business leaders.
Justice S.M. Attique Shah Sworn In as Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court
In Peshawar, Justice S.M. Attique Shah assumed office as the new Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court. His oath was administered by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi during a formal ceremony at the Governor House.
The event was attended by KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Federal Minister for SAFRON Amir Muqam, Opposition Leader Dr. Ibadullah, along with top provincial officials, including Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah and IG Police Zulfiqar Ahmed.
Governor Kundi expressed hope that Justice Shah would uphold the principles of justice with integrity and impartiality.
Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar Assumes Role as Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court
In Islamabad, Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court. The ceremony was held at Aiwan-e-Sadr (President House) and was presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari, who administered the oath.
Among those in attendance were Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, senior legal figures, and political dignitaries.
President Zardari praised Justice Dogar’s legal acumen and expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen the rule of law and uphold transparency within the judicial system, calling his appointment timely and significant for the nation’s legal landscape.
