National Assembly to Convene Today at 2 PM

National Assembly

The National Assembly of Pakistan is scheduled to convene today at 2 PM to discuss an extensive 18-point agenda, covering key legislative matters and policy issues.

One of the primary concerns to be addressed is the controversial awarding of the tax digitalization contract to the international consulting firm “McKinsey.”

Lawmakers are expected to raise serious concerns about transparency and the potential implications of handing such a critical task to a foreign entity. This topic has sparked debate among opposition parties and government officials alike, making it one of the most anticipated discussions of the session.

In addition, the assembly will deliberate on the ongoing issue of halting new gas connections across the country. This matter has raised significant concerns among the public and industrial sectors, as the suspension has directly impacted economic activities and household utilities.

Lawmakers will discuss potential solutions to address this crisis and explore ways to ensure the uninterrupted supply of gas to both residential and commercial consumers.

The session will also focus on several important legislative amendments. The Anti-Dumping Duty Amendment Bill 2025 and the Eviction Amendment Bill 2025 are set for review. These bills aim to strengthen the country’s trade policies and protect local industries from unfair competition while addressing issues related to property disputes and evictions.

Moreover, the Societies Registration Amendment Ordinance and the Federal Board of Education Amendment Ordinance will be considered for further extension. These ordinances are crucial for regulating educational institutions and managing the registration process for various societies and organizations.

Another significant item on the agenda is the Income Tax Amendment Ordinance 2024. The Finance Minister is expected to present a comprehensive policy statement on loans, highlighting the government’s borrowing strategy and financial management plans.

A performance monitoring report will also be presented to assess the progress made in achieving economic targets and reforms.

The session is expected to witness intense debate as opposition parties are likely to question the government’s economic policies and demand accountability for the recent financial decisions.

With the current political climate and economic challenges facing the country, today’s National Assembly meeting holds great significance in shaping future policies and legislative actions.
