The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a revamped version of the B-Form (birth registration certificate) for children over the age of 10, featuring advanced security measures aimed at preventing identity theft and fraud.
This new initiative, unveiled on Wednesday, represents a significant upgrade to the existing system, aligning it with modern security standards.
The upgraded B-Form will now include mandatory features such as photographs and fingerprints. These additions mark the first time such advanced security measures have been integrated into the document, offering heightened protection against fraudulent activities.
Announcing the development, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized its importance, stating, “This initiative is designed to safeguard children’s identity information and curb issues like fake identity cards, illegal passports, and human trafficking.”
Implementation of the new B-Form is scheduled to begin on January 15, 2025. Parents or legal guardians must accompany their children to the nearest NADRA center to apply for the updated document.
The application process will require the submission of the child’s computerized birth certificate and the parent’s computerized national identity card (CNIC).
Following the completion of the verification process, a photograph-enabled B-Form embedded with the child’s photo and fingerprints will be issued.
The Ministry of Interior has clarified that this updated B-Form will become mandatory for applying for new passports. Older versions of the B-Form, which lack the new security features, will no longer be accepted for this purpose, underscoring the need for families to transition to the upgraded version.
Additionally, the Ministry has outlined plans for future enhancements to the identity verification process. These include integrating iris scans alongside photographs and fingerprints, with identification measures to be implemented at the union council level.
NADRA also plans to integrate its system with provincial Civil Registration Management Systems to ensure comprehensive data security and streamline processes across the country.
This upgraded B-Form initiative reflects NADRA’s commitment to leveraging technology to strengthen identity management systems, ensuring that children’s identity information is secure and that fraudulent activities are effectively curbed. It marks a major step forward in protecting national security and individual rights.
