The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has firmly refuted recent online rumors regarding a supposed policy change related to the inclusion of the designation “Resident of AJK State” on Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).
The rumors, which spread through social media platforms, falsely suggested a modification to NADRA’s established procedures for issuing CNICs with this designation.
In a statement issued on Monday, NADRA clarified that the designation “Resident of AJK State” continues to be printed in black on Smart CNICs and in red on older versions of the CNICs.
The authority emphasized that this practice remains unchanged, and that no new policy had been introduced. NADRA explained that applicants wishing to have this designation on their CNIC must provide a valid State Subject Certificate, which is issued by the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The rumors circulating on social media, according to NADRA, are baseless and misleading, created with the intent to confuse and misguide the public.
NADRA reaffirmed that its process for issuing CNICs with the “Resident of AJK State” designation remains consistent, and applicants are still required to submit the necessary documentation to obtain the designation.
From December 2024 to January 2025, NADRA issued over 50,000 CNICs with the “Resident of AJK State” designation. However, the authority acknowledged that some CNICs were issued without this designation due to applicants failing to submit the required State Subject Certificate or due to clerical errors in data entry.
To address these issues, NADRA has taken proactive steps by reaching out to those affected individuals and offering them the opportunity to have their CNICs reissued with the correct designation, free of charge.
For those applicants who did not initially submit the required State Subject Certificate, NADRA has advised them to reapply with the correct documentation and pay the associated fees to have the designation added to their CNICs.
This initiative is part of NADRA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the accuracy and correctness of its records, and to offering a seamless service to the residents of AJK.
