Massive Anti Polio Drive Launched in Punjab, Aims to Vaccinate 4.5 Million Children

Punjab has launched an extensive anti polio campaign across five districts, including Lahore, aimed at administering polio drops to approximately 4.5 million children. This initiative comes in response to the detection of the poliovirus in the region, underscoring the urgency and importance of vaccination efforts.

Khizr Afzal, the Head of the Anti Polio Program, emphasized the critical nature of this campaign, which has been rolled out in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, and Muzaffargarh. The primary objective is to ensure that all eligible children receive the necessary polio vaccinations to protect them from this debilitating disease.

The campaign is being executed with the participation of 32,000 dedicated polio workers who are tasked with reaching every household to administer the drops. In Lahore and Rawalpindi, the campaign will span seven days, allowing ample time for thorough coverage and ensuring no child is left behind. For the remaining districts, namely Bahawalpur, Lodhran, and Muzaffargarh, the campaign duration will be five days, optimizing efficiency while maintaining rigorous vaccination standards.

The Head of the Anti Polio Program in Punjab reiterated the comprehensive nature of the campaign, stressing the collaborative efforts of health workers, volunteers, and local authorities to achieve maximum vaccination coverage. Such concerted efforts are crucial in the fight against polio, aiming not only to halt the spread of the virus but also to protect future generations from its devastating effects.

Public awareness and community engagement are pivotal aspects of the campaign, with efforts focused on educating parents and caregivers about the importance of vaccination. Door-to-door visits, mobile vaccination teams, and community outreach programs are integral components to ensure accessibility and acceptance of the polio vaccine across diverse communities.

The Government of Punjab has committed substantial resources and logistical support to facilitate the smooth implementation of the campaign. This includes ensuring the availability of vaccines, mobilizing healthcare personnel, and establishing monitoring mechanisms to track progress and address any challenges promptly.

Through these proactive measures, Punjab aims to achieve a polio-free status, aligning with national and global health goals to eradicate polio entirely. The success of this campaign hinges on continued commitment, coordination, and participation from all stakeholders, reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to safeguarding children’s health and ensuring a polio-free future for all.
