ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made an unannounced visit to Jinnah Hospital in Lahore, uncovering significant administrative shortcomings.
Following numerous complaints from patients and their attendants about the lack of free medicines and essential medical tests, she took swift action, ordering the immediate suspension of the hospital’s principal and medical superintendent (MS).
During her inspection, the CM discovered that while medicines were available in the hospital’s stock, patients in the emergency ward were being denied access to them. Expressing strong discontent over the mismanagement, she reprimanded hospital staff and authorities for their failure to provide critical medical aid.
While engaging with patients and their families, Maryam Nawaz directly inquired about the availability of medicines and tests. Many voiced their frustration, revealing that despite hospital policies ensuring free medication, they were forced to buy medicines from outside.
Witnessing the situation firsthand, she took immediate corrective measures, holding hospital officials accountable. She reassured patients that the government is dedicated to enhancing public healthcare and will not tolerate negligence that compromises patient welfare.
