The statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the inaugural Sikh ruler of Punjab, has been permanently installed at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.
This statue, which had been housed at the gurdwara over the past year, now stands as a poignant symbol of Sikh heritage and history.
The installation ceremony was graced by Punjab’s Minister for Minority Affairs and Chairman of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora. Officials from the PMU Kartarpur and Sikh pilgrims from India also attended the event, marking it as a significant occasion.
Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora underscored the statue’s importance, stating, “The restored statue has been placed at Kartarpur Sahib to allow Sikh pilgrims and tourists from the Kartarpur Corridor and around the world to admire it.” He emphasized the need to safeguard and preserve the statue for future generations.
Arora also disclosed plans for the upcoming restoration of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s samadhi in Lahore, a project set to commence shortly. This endeavor forms part of broader initiatives aimed at honoring and conserving the rich Sikh heritage in the region.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s statue, a significant figure in Sikh history, serves as a lasting tribute to his legacy and contributions to the Sikh community and Punjab. Its permanent installation at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib is expected to draw numerous visitors, both domestically and internationally, fostering a deeper appreciation of Sikh culture and history.
The Kartarpur Corridor, linking India’s Dera Baba Nanak shrine to Pakistan’s Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, stands as a beacon of peace and religious harmony since its opening. The placement of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s statue further enhances the corridor’s role as a bridge between communities, reaffirming the enduring significance of the Sikh faith.
