ISLAMABAD: Former DG ISI and sitting Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lt-General Faiz Hamid has filed an application with the GHQ, seeking early retirement from the army.
Lt Gen Hamid — who earlier served as the chief of Inter-Services Intelligence and became a controversial military officer — was among the six Lt-Generals nominated by the General Headquarters (GHQ) for the army chief’s post through he was on fifth position in seniority.
The Corps Commander Bahawalpur has sent a request to the GHQ in Rawalpindi for his early retirement, Geo News reported today quoting sources.
This unexpected development has surfaced just before the change of command of army chief as General Asim Munir is taking charge from General Bajwa today.
Meanwhile, Lt-General Azhar Abbas, Pakistan Army’s Chief of General Staff has also sought early retirement as well. General Azhar Abbas was also among the senior-most officers recommended for the posts of army chief and CJCSC.
“I confirm that Lt Gen Azhar Abbas has sought earlier retirement to maintain his grace, honour, and dignity as a decorated officer of Pakistan Army,” brother of Gen. Azhar said.
