Khawaja Asif urges women to protest if they are compelled to become housewives after receiving an education

During the annual convocation of Government College Women’s University in Sialkot, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif emphasized the importance of education and the pivotal role of women in society.

Asif began by highlighting education as a form of wealth that grows through application and sharing. He expressed concern over statistics showing that 73% of female students, particularly those training to become doctors, ultimately choose to be homemakers instead of pursuing theireducation .

Pointing out that the government invests Rs11.7 million in educating each doctor, Asif underscored the inefficiency when educated women do not enter the workforce.

Directly addressing the students, Khawaja Asif encouraged them to become proactive and influential members of society. He criticized the prevalent societal mindset where girls are often educated solely to secure advantageous marriages rather than to pursue independent careers.

Warning about the economic consequences of underutilized human resources, Asif stressed the necessity for all segments of society to contribute actively to national development.

Asif called upon women to protest if they are compelled to assume traditional roles as homemakers despite their education, emphasizing that talent and education should not go to waste.

He highlighted a critical societal gap where educated women are not adequately encouraged to contribute professionally.

“Your talents are squandered if you are pushed into a homemaker role after receiving an education,” he reiterated, advocating for societal transformation and greater support for women’s participation in the workforce.
