Karachi police register FIR of attack on KPO against unknown terrorists, their facilitators

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Karachi police have registered an FIR of the terrorist attack on the office of the Karachi Police Chief against unknown terrorists and their facilitators.

Unknown armed militants attacked the Karachi police chief office on Friday evening.

Saddar Station House Officer (SHO) Khalid Hussain lodged the FIR on Sunday.

According to police, the FIR has been registered under murder, attempted murder and multiple sections of the Anti-terrorism Act at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station.

A group of terrorists attacked the office of the Karachi police chief at 7:15 pm. They used grenades and resorted to firing on police officials.

Five members of the Tehreek Taliban Pakistan (TTP), including three killed during crossfire, have been nominated in the case.

The TTP claimed responsibility for the attack through social media.

Five-Member Committee formed to probe attack

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IG) Sindh Ghulam Nabi has formed a five-member committee to probe the terrorist attack on the office of the Karachi police chief.

All three terrorists were killed in the attack while two police officials, a sub-inspector of Rangers, and a civilian embraced martyrdom.

Police and Rangers clear the five-storey office of the Karachi police chief after a fierce encounter with the terrorists.

A total of 18 people _ policemen and Rangers officials sustained injuries in their combat with the militants on Friday night.

The five-member committee will identify the flaws in the KPO security which enabled the militants to find their way into the office located on the city’s main artery — Sharea Faisal.

Five-member committee to probe Karachi Police Office attack

Zulfiqar Ali Larik, Sindh Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) will be the head of the committee. Karachi South Zone DIGP Irfan Ali Baloch, Crime Investigation Agency DIGP Muhammad Karim Khan, Karachi CTD Operations Senior Superintendent of Police Tariq Nawaz, and Karachi CTD Investigation Incharge Raja Umer Khitab are members of the committee.

Earlier, on Friday evening some armed militants attacked the Karachi Police Chief’s office.

However, police and Rangers officials the office of the Karachi police chief from the terrorists who attacked it Friday evening.

According to the report, three terrorists, two police officials, and a civilian have died in the attack on the Karachi Police Office.

Furthermore, about 11 people sustained injuries as police and Rangers mounted a counter-operation against the attackers.

The security officials have cleared the five-storey building. Media personnel and locals heard the sounds of heavy gunfire and explosions from the office of the Karachi police chief on Friday night.

“The Karachi police office has come under attack,” Additional Inspector General Javed Alam Odho told the media.

The police complex contains the office of Karachi’s police chief or Additional Inspector General of Police for Karachi.
