Justice Shujaat Ali Khan was sworn in as the acting chief justice of the Lahore High Court in a ceremony held at the Governor House in Punjab’s capital. The oath was administered by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan. Among the notable attendees were Punjab’s Maryam Nawaz and various provincial ministers.
The ceremony was also attended by Lahore High Court judges, including Justice Ali Baqir Najafi and Justice Alia Neelam, along with all other judges of the court, including those serving at the principal seat.
Justice Khan declined the official protocol typically accorded to the chief justice, opting instead for regular security and foregoing the guard of honour. He will also continue hearing cases in his court during his tenure as acting CJ.
Justice Shujaat Ali Khan began his legal career as a high court judge on March 27, 2012. He earned his LLB from Punjab University in 1995 and previously served as assistant advocate general from 2006 to 2012. His judicial career began in January 2012 and lasted until his elevation to the high court bench on March 26, 2012.
In other judicial news, Karachi witnessed a similar ceremony where Justice Shafi Siddiqui took oath as the acting chief justice of the Sindh High Court. Justice Siddiqui, a senior judge of the court, assumed his new responsibilities, contributing to the leadership and operations of the judiciary in Sindh.
