The Capital Development Authority has announced plans to rename a major road in Islamabad’s F-10 sector in honor of Arshad Nadeem, the world record-holding javelin thrower and Olympic gold medalist.
The road, which runs from the F-10 roundabout to Khayaban-e-Iqbal (also known as Margalla Road), will be dedicated to Nadeem in recognition of his historic achievements.
This decision comes following a directive from the federal government, aiming to celebrate Nadeem’s remarkable accomplishment of winning Pakistan’s first individual Olympic gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The CDA has designated the prominent road in the F-10 Markaz area for this tribute.
In addition to the road naming, the National Assembly has passed a unanimous resolution to honor Nadeem’s success, and President Asif Ali Zardari has announced plans to award him a civil honor. Nadeem has also been recognized with financial rewards from both provincial and federal governments.
At 27, Nadeem made history by achieving a record-setting throw of 92.97 meters in the javelin event, securing his place as the first Pakistani to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
To further celebrate Nadeem’s historic victory, Pakistan Post is issuing a special commemorative stamp on Independence Day. These stamps will be available for purchase at General Post Offices (GPOs) in major cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Murree, as well as at the Post Mall Gulberg in Lahore.
Despite the public holiday on August 14, these locations will remain open for the public and philatelists to acquire the stamps.
Postmaster generals have been instructed to ensure that their philatelic bureaus are open and stocked with these commemorative stamps, underscoring the nation’s pride in Arshad Nadeem’s historic achievement.
