The Pakistan Airports Authority has approved the decision to outsource the management of Islamabad International Airport to a Turkish consortium, TERG, for a period of 15 years, according to sources within the Ministry of Aviation.
The decision was finalized during a Board of Directors meeting led by Aviation Secretary Ahsan Mangi. The Turkish consortium, TERG, had submitted a competitive bid covering 47.25% of the project cost, which was subsequently approved by the board. The next step in the process will involve seeking approval from the federal cabinet to officially finalize the outsourcing agreement.
This move to outsource the management of Islamabad’s airport is part of a broader strategy by the government, which also plans to privatize the management of Karachi and Lahore airports.
Appointment of New PIA CEO Moves Forward
Meanwhile, the process of appointing a new permanent CEO for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is gaining traction. After reviewing 37 applications, two candidates—Imran Aslam Khan and senior PIA officer Khurram Mushtaq—have been shortlisted for the role.
The PIA HR department has sent the names of these candidates to the PIA Board, which will conduct interviews and select three candidates for final consideration. The Prime Minister will then make the final appointment, with the new CEO set to serve a three-year term.
