PESHAWAR: In a groundbreaking development, the tribal district of Kurram in Peshawar appointed its first-ever Christian woman Station House Officer (SHO) at the Parachinar Police Station, as reported on Wednesday.
Thirty-five-year-old Samreen Amir considers her appointment a testament to diversity within the police department.

She has already conducted numerous raids and actively participated in police exercises within the Kurram district. Her primary focus is on assisting voiceless and vulnerable women in the region.
District Police Officer Kurram, Muhammad Imran, explained that this move aims to provide a safe space for women to report crimes and address issues like inheritance problems and domestic violence.
Kurram district established a Woman Reporting Center in 2020, dedicated to addressing women’s complaints.
Furthermore, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Inspector General of Police, Akhtar Hayat Khan, emphasized that Samreen’s appointment exemplifies the police department’s commitment to gender equality and women empowerment.
He also highlighted the department’s track record of promoting women’s careers in policing, citing examples such as a female district police officer in Batgram and Chitral and a higher number of female traffic police officers in the province. Moreover, on Wednesday, Inam ur Rahim, the father of Sarah Inam, a Canadian national allegedly murdered by her husband in Islamabad about a year ago, categorically rejected any possibility of a settlement with the defence. Rahim also accused the defence of causing delays in the case’s conclusion.
