ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeem emphasized on Saturday that the party has no personal agenda but is focused on securing a brighter future for Pakistan, which he believes requires regulating Independent Power Producers.
Speaking to the media, Hafiz Naeem stated, “Those who oppress Pakistan will not be allowed to continue their actions. We will reclaim the rights of the 250 million citizens of this country.” He reiterated that the ongoing sit-in would not conclude until its objectives are met.
Highlighting the hopes the public has placed in Jamaat-e-Islami, he affirmed, “We will not disappoint them.” Hafiz Naeem warned that if electricity bills are not reduced, the sit-in would extend to the entire country. He also announced plans for a significant gathering on Murree Road and a public meeting specifically for women on the following Monday.
Criticizing the Punjab government, he pointed out that many of the party’s workers have been arrested across the province, stating, “Massive arrests have been made, and FIRs have been registered in Lahore.”
He further condemned the government for arresting elderly individuals in cities like Okara and Multan, asserting, “I warn the government to release our workers immediately. We have options and can redirect the sit-in as needed.”
Despite the government’s overtures for dialogue, Hafiz Naeem insisted that fascism and meaningful discussions cannot coexist. He called for immediate action to address the grievances of the public and urged the government to take the necessary steps to alleviate the burdens imposed by rising electricity costs.
The JI leader’s comments reflect a growing frustration among citizens and party members regarding the current state of affairs in Pakistan.
