A caravan from Ghotki journeyed to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto, the mausoleum of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, to stage a symbolic protest against the alleged inaction by police in apprehending suspects named in the murder case of journalist Nasrullah Gadani.
On Sunday, police halted the vehicles carrying Gadani’s family and supporters at Bahman Plot, a key entry point into Larkana district. Among those in the caravan were Gadani’s mother, Ms. Pathani, his brother Yakoob Gadani, and civil society activists including Asad Pitafi and Naimat Khuhro. Forced to continue on foot, they encountered further obstruction near Panjodero village but eventually reached the mausoleum’s outer gate.
There, a heavy police presence led by DSP Paras Bakhrani prevented them from entering the mausoleum. Under the intense heat, Ms. Pathani fainted during a sit-in protest at the gate. Local journalists reported that she received first aid from a Rescue 1122 team.
During the sit-in, Ms. Pathani, Yakoob Gadani, and Naimat Khuhro spoke to the media, reiterating their call for the Sindh government to expedite the arrest of the suspects. They criticized Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s earlier promise to arrest the suspects within three days, noting that no progress had been made.
Larkana SSP Dr. Mir Rohail Khan Khoso indicated that the protesters were likely to conclude their sit-in soon. Despite this, the protest continued at Gate No. 12 of the mausoleum late into the evening.
