ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has called upon former finance minister Ishaq Dar to appear in a case involving alleged possession of assets beyond his known means on October 10. Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir issued these orders.
Following the amendment of the National Accountability Ordinance, the accountability court had previously closed the case pertaining to assets beyond known sources of income against Dar.
Previously, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) returned cases against politicians to accountability courts following the Supreme Court’s nullification of certain sections of amendments made to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) in the previous year.
It is important to note that the Supreme Court ordered the reinstatement of corruption cases against public representatives, as it invalidated certain sections of amendments to the country’s accountability laws enacted by the previous coalition government.
In a majority decision of 2-1, the apex court upheld the petition brought by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan, challenging the amendments made to the country’s accountability laws. Former Chief Justice Bandial and Justice Ahsan found Imran’s plea to be legally valid, while Justice Shah dissented from the verdict.
