ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today approved the name of Syed Asim Munir as the next army chief of Pakistan.
At present, Lt-General Syed Asim Munir is the senior most Lt-General in the army. In the history of Pakistan, he will be the first ‘Hafiz-e-Quran’ army chief of the country. “Hafiz-e-Quran” is a person who memorizes Quran.
On Thursday, after holding a cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent advice to the President of Pakistan to notify Lt-General Syed Asim Munir as the new army chief of Pakistan from Nov 29, 2022.
From Nov 29, Lt-General Syed Asim Munir will be promoted as 4-Star General for his appointment as army chief of Pakistan.
Appointment of Asim Munir may irritate PTI chairman Imran Khan because as DG ISI, Asim Munir dared to report to Imran Khan (then Prime Minister) the involvement of first lady Bushra Bibi (Pinky Peerny), Farah Gogi and Usman Buzdar in malpractices, misuse of authorities and corruption, etc.
However, this startling disclosure led to the removal of DG ISI Asim Munir from his position and Lt-General Faiz Hameed was posted in his place. This is the main reason behind PTI chief Imran Khan’s hue and cry over the appointment of new army chief as he did not want/afford to see Asim Munir as next army chief.
