ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formally released notifications confirming the success of 37 candidates in the Senate elections held on April 2.
Among the newly elected senators are Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan representing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Ishaq Dar from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), both representing the federal capital.
From Punjab, the notified senators include Ahad Cheema, Pervaiz Rasheed, Hamid Khan, Raja Nasir Abbas, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Muhammad Talal Badar Chaudhry, Nasir Mehmood, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Musadik Masood Malik, Anusha Rehman Ahmad Khan, Bushra Anjum Butt, and Khalil Tahir, all affiliated with PML-N.
Representatives from Sindh, including Syed Masroor Ahsan, Dost Ali Jeesar, Ashraf Ali Jatoi, Syed Kazim Ali Shah, Amir Wali Uddin Chishti, Faisal Vawda, Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, Zamir Hussain Ghumro, Sarmad Ali, Qurat-Ul-Ain Marri, Rubina Qaim Khani, and minority member Poonjo, belong to various political groups such as PPP, MQM, and an independent candidate.
In Balochistan, the notified senators are Ahmed Khan (JUIP), Anwar ul Kakar (Independent), Aimal Wali Khan (ANP), Jan Muhammad (NP), Sardar Al Haj Muhammad Umer Goraij (PPP), Syedaal Khan, Shahzaib Durrani, and Bilal Ahmed Khan (PPP), Abdul Wasay (JUIP), Husna Bano (PPP), and Rahat Jamali (PML-N).
It’s worth noting that 48 Senate members retired in March after completing their six-year term, leading to elections to fill 30 vacant seats on April 2, with 18 already secured through uncontested elections.
However, elections for 11 seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were postponed due to a deadlock between the provincial government and opposition regarding the oath-taking of elected MPAs on reserved seats, resulting in the election of 19 senators on April 2.
