PML-N Leaders
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officially affirmed the victories of five prominent Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leaders in the 2024 general election. In a notice issued by the ECP, the success of Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, and Attaullah Tarar was announced.
As per the ECP’s notification, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif secured victory in NA-118 Lahore, Maryam Nawaz emerged triumphant in NA-119 Lahore, and Shehbaz Sharif received the declaration of success in NA-123 Lahore. Additionally, PML-N’s Attaullah Tarar was declared successful in NA-127 Lahore, along with PML-N’s leader Mian Nawaz Sharif, who achieved victory in NA-130, as officially declared in the notification.
In response to the election results, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif expressed the party’s willingness to sit in the opposition if independently-backed candidates supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demonstrate a majority and form a government at the federal level. He emphasized that if PTI-backed independent candidates succeed in forming a government, PML-N will play its constitutional role in opposition.
However, Shehbaz Sharif maintained that if independent candidates fail to establish a government, other political parties have the right to form one through the legal and democratic process.
Despite PML-N not securing a majority in the elections, Shehbaz Sharif affirmed that Nawaz Sharif remains the party’s candidate for the prime minister’s position, stating, “I am still standing by my words that Nawaz Sharif will become the prime minister for the fourth time.”
The PML-N president called for unity among political forces to address the challenges facing Pakistan and urged putting aside differences for the greater good of the nation. This strategic approach by PML-N reflects their commitment to the democratic process and constructive participation in the political landscape despite not securing a majority in the recent elections.
