The alarming surge in drug sales in Sialkot has raised significant concern among residents, as more young people fall victim to addiction.
Areas such as Nikapura, Hajipura, and Shahabpura have become notorious for drug dealing, prompting locals to express frustration over the lack of effective police intervention.
Community members are urging the Inspector General of Punjab to take immediate action.
“Drugs are spreading rapidly in our community, and students are the ones suffering. The police need to do more, or the IG Punjab should step down,” one resident remarked, highlighting the widespread dissatisfaction.
Many residents noted that the availability of drugs in public spaces is well-known, yet law enforcement seems unable to combat the issue effectively.
Shopkeepers have also voiced their concerns, stating that drug dealers operate openly and without fear of repercussions, while police response has been inadequate.
Sialkot District Police Officer Umar Farooq reported that police operations have intensified, resulting in the arrest of 754 suspects over the past three months. He mentioned that 625 different types of drugs, including hashish, ice, and heroin, have been seized.
Despite these efforts, public sentiment remains one of frustration and disappointment, as many feel that the measures taken so far are insufficient to address the growing drug problem in the community.
