Chief cop denies Arrests in Islamabad Suicide attack

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad chief cop refuted the assertion, that four to five terrorists involved in the I-10/4 bomb blast had been arrested, contradicting the interior minster claim he made on Dec 27, 2022,.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Akbar Nasir Khan said the suicide bomber’s identity had been disclosed. He was sitting besides the Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in a press conference. However details of the network involved in the blast could not be shared due to the ongoing investigation.

The IGP added that the “Arrest of the network members is under consideration. Investigations are underway and that media will be informed whenever any arrest is made.”

Earlier the interior ministry issued a statement on Dec 27. It stated that Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, in an interview with a private channel had said that those involved in the suicide attack in Islamabad had been arrested.

The minister further said the suspects had stayed in Rawalpindi after coming from Kurram Agency, it added. The minister also claimed that the handlers were also arrested.

The police chief further said two persons were arrested in connection with a video that went viral on social media. The persons in the said video claimed that the TTP had reached the Parliament House.

The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the twin cities police arrested two persons through a joint effort. The arrested two are the natives of Swabi and Peshawar.

The Counter-Terrorism Department Islamabad has registered a case against them, said IGP Khan. The chief cop stated that they were in police custody on a seven-day remand.

He further highlighted that their networks are visible on social media. And that ICT is making cooperative efforts with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to eliminate them.

The FIR registered states that the arrests were made from Fatehjang Road following a tip from an informer. It further states that the arrested are active members of TTP. The arrested were in possession of 500 grams of explosives, detonators and other items.
