Army Chief Pledges Full Support for KP Police in Fight Against Terrorism During Orakzai Visit

Army Chief

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has expressed strong support for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police and other law enforcement agencies in their ongoing fight against terrorism.

During his visit to the Orakzai district, General Munir praised the contributions of KP’s security forces and reiterated the military’s commitment to assisting them, especially in the newly merged districts of the province.

The army chief’s remarks came as he visited troops stationed in Orakzai who have recently been involved in counter-terrorism operations in the Tirah Valley and surrounding areas.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Munir emphasized that the Pakistan Army would continue to provide all-out support to KP police and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to enable them to effectively perform their duties in these challenging regions.

General Munir also highlighted the importance of ongoing capacity building for LEAs, recognizing the crucial role of local communities in supporting security efforts.

He commended the cooperation of the local population, noting that their positive involvement is vital for maintaining peace and stability in the area.

Earlier on the same day, police officers in KP’s Lakki Marwat district ended a five-day sit-in protest against the escalating terrorist attacks on law enforcement personnel.

The protest had led to road blockages, including on the Indus Highway, but was resolved following negotiations.

The recent surge in militant attacks in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, has been attributed to the resurgence of the Taliban government in Afghanistan since 2021.

According to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), there was a significant increase in attacks from 38 in July to 59 in August, with notable incidents in KP, Balochistan, and Punjab.

During his visit, General Munir received a comprehensive briefing on the overall security situation, including ongoing intelligence-based counter-terrorism operations and multi-faceted measures aimed at ensuring stability in the merged districts of KP.

He commended the high morale and readiness of the troops and officers to effectively respond to all threats.

The COAS reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defeating hostile terrorist networks and eliminating illegal activities.

He paid tribute to the sacrifices of the army and law enforcement personnel, emphasizing that the peace achieved through significant national sacrifices would be preserved at all costs.

General Munir’s visit included laying a wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada and was marked by his interaction with the Corps Commander Peshawar.

Last month, security forces conducted extensive intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in the Tirah Valley, Khyber District, resulting in the elimination of at least 37 militants associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
