£190 Million Case
Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, has raised serious allegations against the government, accusing them of politically motivated prosecution in the ongoing £190 million case.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, where her brother is currently imprisoned, Aleema Khan claimed that while Imran Khan is being punished, Asif Zardari played a key role in facilitating the transaction at the center of the case. She further demanded that if Imran Khan is held accountable, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should also face scrutiny.
Aleema Khan questioned the timing and nature of the charges being brought against her brother, pointing out that the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) had already determined that the funds in question were not proceeds of theft.
Instead, the NCA had identified the money as a bribe paid by a property tycoon to Nawaz Sharif. She called for Nawaz Sharif to provide an explanation regarding the acceptance of this bribe.
Additionally, Aleema emphasized that the NCA’s investigation cleared the funds of any allegations of money laundering or theft. The property tycoon, she noted, later negotiated with the NCA to repatriate the funds to Pakistan, resulting in significant profits.
Despite this, she alleged that Zardari facilitated the process that led to the fine, yet Imran Khan is being unfairly targeted for establishing a charitable organization that promotes the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Aleema Khan stated that if there are questions about her brother’s role in the transaction, Nawaz Sharif must also answer for his involvement.
She expressed concern about the relentless pursuit of her brother, arguing that the focus should shift toward those who actually benefitted from the transaction. Imran Khan, she added, is fully prepared to face the charges and is confident that the high court will overturn the conviction.
Aleema Khan concluded by emphasizing that her brother will continue to fight these cases and expressed her belief that the current ease with which he is being convicted would not persist.
Once Imran Khan is released, she said, the public will witness the truth unfold. The accountability court has adjourned the £190 million case until January 17, marking the third postponement of the verdict.
