Abdul Aleem Khan Urges NHA and FWO to Rigorously Enforce Traffic Rules and Regulations

Minister Advocates for Implementation of “E-Challan” System to Address Traffic Violations
Federal Minister for Privatization and Investment Board and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, presided over a joint departmental meeting with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and the National Highway Authority (NHA), focusing on improving Pakistan’s road infrastructure efficiency and safety.

During the session, Minister Khan underscored the importance of synchronized policies between FWO and NHA. He directed the enforcement of a ban on excessive axle loads on Grand Trunk (GT) Roads, akin to those on motorways, and mandated the establishment of weighing stations to ensure compliance for heavy vehicles.

Khan advocated for the adoption of “e-challan” systems to address traffic violations, including speeding, seat belt non-compliance, and mobile phone use. He also emphasized the need for installing surveillance cameras on national highways to enhance accident prevention.

The minister insisted that both NHA and FWO enforce traffic regulations rigorously, without external influence on the axle load ban.

Khan further highlighted the need for future-oriented construction of new motorways and highways. He specifically instructed the development of the Sialkot to Khariyan and Islamabad motorways as two-way, six-lane roads to meet growing traffic demands.

The meeting, which featured updates from Director General FWO Major General Abdul Sami and Chairman NHA Shehryar Sultan, reviewed the status of motorways, GT Roads, and ongoing projects. A follow-up meeting was scheduled for the next week to continue discussions and oversee the implementation of these directives.
