GOTHKI: On Monday, the police initiated targeted efforts to apprehend the perpetrator responsible for the murder of journalist Nasrullah Gadani.
According to the news, law enforcement has detained three suspects from the Kamal Lond village.
Gadani, who tragically succumbed to gunshot wounds early Friday, was laid to rest in Ghotki on Saturday.
The journalist, affiliated with a Sindhi newspaper, sustained severe injuries when unidentified gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on him near Korai Goth, located 12 kilometers from Mirpur Mathelo, on May 21.
Gadani was riding his motorcycle at the time of the attack. After the assault, he was transported to Civil Hospital Mirpur Mathelo for immediate medical attention and subsequently underwent surgery in Rahim Yar Khan.
He was later transferred to Karachi via an air ambulance for advanced treatment, with the Sindh government pledging to cover all medical expenses.
Protestors demand arrest of Gadani’s killers
On Sunday, a collective demonstration took place in front of the Karachi Press Club denouncing the killing of the journalist and condemning the “barbaric acts committed by tribal chiefs and feudal lords”.
Led by the National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) and the Home-Based Women Workers Federation (HBWWF), alongside various other social, political, and human rights organizations, the protest demanded the apprehension of the journalist’s murderers and those responsible for the killings of political and social activists preceding him.
The demonstrators insisted on safeguarding the lives of journalists and media personnel by enforcing laws designed for their protection.
Throughout the protest, there were calls to cease harboring hostile and anti-democratic elements within political parties, particularly urging an end to support for the “tribal leader” implicated in Gadani’s murder.
Furthermore, demands were made for the safe return of all missing citizens, including Farhad, and for the punishment of those involved in such egregious acts.
The protest also advocated for the registration of all media workers with social security and pension schemes. Additionally, the Sindh government was urged to allocate funds to aid Gadani’s family, particularly his children.
The eradication of feudalism was emphasized, alongside requests for the distribution of agricultural land to landless peasants as part of agricultural reforms, aiming to bolster democracy and achieve social justice.
