The United States Mission to Pakistan on January 22 launched the Freedom 250 Liberty Bell initiative, themed โLet Freedom Ring,โ to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence. The launch ceremony took place at Lincoln Corner Islamabad, where US Chargรฉ dโAffaires Natalie A. Baker unveiled a full-sized replica of the iconic Liberty Bell.
The initiative marks the beginning of a year-long series of events aimed at celebrating American independence while highlighting the enduring role of diplomacy in shaping the United Statesโ history and global engagement. Through this effort, the US mission seeks to promote shared democratic values and people-to-people connections with Pakistan.
The Liberty Bell, housed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, remains one of the most powerful symbols of American freedom and democracy. Cast in 1752, it played a notable role during the American Revolution and rang to mark key historical moments, including the signing of the US Constitution in 1787. Over time, the bell has also come to represent the ideals of justice, equality, and liberty.
In her remarks, Chargรฉ Baker reflected on the bellโs historical legacy and its connection to defining moments in US history, including the abolition of slavery. She noted that unveiling the replica inside Lincoln Corner was especially meaningful, as the space promotes learning about American society and values such as freedom of speech. She also highlighted the contributions of US diplomats from Philadelphia, emphasizing the personal ties that continue to strengthen US-Pakistan relations.
As part of the โLet Freedom Ringโ initiative, the US mission will distribute 15 Liberty Bell replicas to Lincoln Corners across Pakistan. Local artists and student volunteers will paint the bells under the theme โWhat Freedom Means to Me.โ These works will feature at US Independence Day celebrations in Pakistan and in a commemorative embassy video this summer.
US launches Liberty Bell project in Pakistan, marking 250 years of independence through cultural exchange and creative outreach.
