Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah is under fire online after deleting a Facebook post in which he voiced support for singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh amid the ongoing row over the film Sardaar Ji 3.
The controversy erupted after Diljit co-starred with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the film, drawing criticism from right-wing groups. In his now-deleted post, Shah had condemned the backlash against Diljit and accused political elements of orchestrating the outrage. However, shortly after removing the post, social media users began calling him out for what they described as a “U-turn.”
On X (formerly Twitter), users circulated screenshots of the original post and mocked Shah. One user wrote, “So, Naseeruddin Shah has deleted his post. But only from social media, not from his mind. He never supported Bharat and never will.” Another quipped, “Maybe he remembered where the money comes from,” while others accused him of backtracking under pressure.
The hashtag #NaseeruddinShah began trending as netizens criticized the Sarfarosh actor for retracting his statement.
Shah had initially posted a strong message of solidarity with Diljit on Monday, saying, “I STAND FIRMLY WITH DILJIT. The dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party has been awaiting a chance to attack him. They think they’ve got it at last. He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was.”
He went on to praise Diljit’s open-mindedness, stating that the actor’s decision to take part in Sardaar Ji 3 reflected his resistance to hate-driven politics.
While the original post has disappeared, the storm it stirred continues to rage across social media.
