ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a public advisory urging citizens to avoid photocopying their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) unless necessary.
In an official statement, NADRA emphasized that submitting CNIC photocopies for forms or service registrations is generally unnecessary. Citizens are instead encouraged to carry their original CNICs along with any required supporting documents.
The authority clarified that there is no legal requirement mandating CNIC photocopies for routine processes.
Raising alarm over the growing threat of identity theft, NADRA highlighted concerns about fraudulent schemes where criminals, often posing as officials, deceive individuals with promises of financial rewards, prizes, or other incentives to unlawfully obtain personal information, including fingerprints.
The advisory also warned citizens to be particularly cautious at NADRA centers, where some incidents have been reported. People were advised not to hand over their CNICs as collateral for services or prizes under any circumstances.
NADRA stated that this move to discourage unnecessary photocopying is part of a broader initiative to enhance data protection and safeguard citizens from identity theft.
