The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched a formal investigation into alleged large-scale corruption involving crores of rupees in the Hala Division of the Sindh Irrigation Department. The probe reportedly involves senior officials accused of misusing development funds intended for irrigation projects in the Matiari district.
According to NAB sources, inquiries have been initiated against Executive Engineer Tariq Kehar, Assistant Engineer San Dino Memon, and several other officials allegedly involved in the misappropriation of public funds. These funds were originally allocated for the development and maintenance of key irrigation channels and watercourses across the region.
As part of the ongoing investigation, NAB has sought detailed records from the Sindh Irrigation Department, directing concerned officials to submit complete data regarding budget allocations, tender processes, and expenditures related to the projects under scrutiny.
The bureau is also reviewing documentation to identify discrepancies between reported financial spending and actual on-ground progress.
Preliminary findings indicate that funds worth several crores were allegedly embezzled under the guise of canal construction and rehabilitation works.
Despite substantial financial allocations, NAB sources revealed that no tangible work was executed on several sites. It is suspected that false billing and fabricated project documentation were used to siphon off public money.
In a related development, Executive Engineer Tariq Kehar is also facing a separate inquiry for allegedly possessing assets beyond known sources of income.
NAB investigators are currently examining his property holdings, bank transactions, and other financial records to assess the extent of unexplained wealth accumulation.
Officials from NAB have emphasized that the investigation is part of a broader accountability drive aimed at curbing corruption within provincial development departments and ensuring transparency in the use of public funds. Further action will be taken based on the evidence gathered during the inquiry.
