ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has ordered the freezing of 10,400 commercial plots owned by Bahria Town Karachi following a corruption investigation.
NAB Karachi’s Director-General, Javed Akbar Riaz, issued the directive after substantial evidence of corrupt practices was uncovered.
According to NAB, its investigation found that Bahria Town’s owner, Malik Riaz, along with his associates—Ahmad Ali Riaz, Zain Malik, Shahid Qureshi, Faisal Qureshi, Mohammad Awais, Wasim Rifat, and Waqas Rifat—were involved in widespread corruption.
The inquiry revealed that these individuals engaged in illegal land acquisition and allotment practices. NAB further disclosed that Malik Riaz and his associates had unlawfully acquired over 16,000 acres of land in Malir through collusion.
The Malir Development Authority (MDA) was also found to have illegally allotted this land, further expanding the investigation’s scope.
The NAB Sindh office confirmed that all commercial plots under Bahria Town’s ownership have been frozen, preventing any further transfers or allotments.
Additionally, the bureau stated that its latest findings provided further evidence of Bahria Town’s involvement in land encroachments beyond the initially allocated plots.
