ISLAMABAD: The government is set to introduce a significant piece of legislation with an amendment to the Civil Courts Ordinance of 1962. The National Assembly is expected to approve the ‘Civil Courts (Amendment) Bill 2025’ in today’s session.
The proposed amendment will require civil courts to resolve cases within a specified time frame. Under the new law, courts will be mandated to decide cases within a three-year period. Sources indicate that if cases are not decided within the allotted time, the relevant high courts will be authorized to intervene.
The National Assembly is also anticipated to pass 105 amendments to the existing law. The session, scheduled for 5:00 pm today, will be chaired by Ayaz Sadiq, with a 13-point agenda for discussion.
During the session, Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar will present the Civil Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2024 for approval. Additionally, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will introduce the Income Tax (Amendment) Ordinance, while Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi will table both the Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and the Pakistan Coast Guards (Amendment) Bill, 2024, for approval.
