Tourism in Murree is on the verge of a remarkable transformation as the Punjab government has given the green light to feasibility studies for two highly anticipated landmark projects aimed at enhancing the hill stationโs appeal.
The projects include the Sky Walk Glass Bridge, with an estimated cost of Rs 72.152 million, and a Chairlift and Cable Car system from Lakot to Pindi Point, to be developed at a cost of Rs 90 million. Both initiatives are expected to significantly strengthen Murreeโs position as a premier tourist destination in Pakistan, offering visitors a blend of scenic beauty and modern infrastructure.
The approval was granted during a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) chaired by Dr. Naeem Rauf, Chairman of the Planning and Development (P&D) Board. Alongside Murreeโs tourism-focused schemes, the meeting also approved a Cable Car project at River Indus, Kala Bagh, Mianwali, valued at Rs 81.571 million.
These ventures are part of a wider development agenda covering multiple sectors, including roads, minority affairs, and information technology, with the total estimated cost of the approved projects amounting to an impressive Rs 5.118 billion.
Among the other notable projects endorsed were the construction of a road from Danda Shah Bilawal to Ghool via Lawa in District Chakwal, costing Rs 1.374 billion, and the Chief Ministerโs Minority Development Programme, which has been allocated Rs 1 billion to support minority communities.
In addition, the PDWP sanctioned a feasibility study for a theme park in Lahore, estimated at Rs 200 million, reflecting the governmentโs focus on expanding recreational opportunities in urban areas.
Moreover, the Accelerate Punjab Startups Tech Programme was also approved, with a significant allocation of Rs 2.3 billion, underscoring the provinceโs commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.
The meeting was attended by key government officials, including Secretary P&D Board Rafaqat Ali, Secretary Tourism Raja Jahangir, Secretary Minorities Affairs Farid Ahmad, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, members of the P&D Board, and other senior representatives.
Their presence highlighted the governmentโs coordinated efforts to push forward strategic projects aimed at not only boosting tourism but also strengthening infrastructure, promoting inclusivity, and supporting the IT sector.
With these projects in motion, Murree is set to witness a new era of modern tourism facilities, while the broader initiatives reflect Punjabโs vision of comprehensive development across multiple sectors.
