MURREE: Murree Police today issued a 10-point traffic and travel advisory for tourists as heavy snowfall and possible blizzard conditions threaten the hill station.
Therefore, authorities advised tourists and residents to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution amid severe weather. The advisory aims to reduce risks, prevent congestion, and ensure public safety during adverse conditions.
Police move on high alert amid worsening weather
District Police Officer Murree Dr Muhammad Raza Tanveer Sipra confirmed that police teams have moved to high alert across the district. He said officers are actively working to keep traffic flowing and to assist travelers; however, he emphasized that public cooperation remains essential.
Consequently, police urged citizens to strictly follow instructions and avoid actions that could worsen congestion or increase danger. Officials warned that road conditions could deteriorate quickly due to snow accumulation and strong winds. Therefore, authorities continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with other departments to manage emergencies promptly.
Safety guidelines urge caution for motorists and tourists
The advisory strongly urges travelers to postpone non-essential trips to Murree during the severe weather spell. Those who must travel should prepare their vehicles for winter conditions by fitting snow chains, checking brakes, and keeping fuel tanks full to manage possible delays.
Moreover, police advised drivers to reduce speed, maintain safe distances, and avoid night travel because poor visibility and icy roads significantly increase accident risks. Motorists should use heaters cautiously during prolonged stoppages and keep windows slightly open to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
In addition, the advisory prohibits parking on main roads and steep slopes. Visitors must use designated parking areas only to avoid blocking emergency movement. Drivers should use headlights in foggy conditions and reserve hazard lights strictly for emergencies.
Police also urged tourists to follow traffic wardensโ directions, cooperate at checkpoints, and check weather and road updates before departure. In case of emergencies, citizens can contact Police Helpline 15 or Rescue 1122 for immediate assistance.
