The Mumbai Police have arrested the suspect involved in the knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan while he was attempting to flee, according to media reports.
Following the incident, the police launched a citywide manhunt, deploying multiple teams across Mumbai and nearby areas. The suspect was apprehended and taken to the Bandra Police Station for further questioning.
Investigators revealed that the suspect was spotted near Bandra Railway Station after the attack and is believed to have boarded a local train heading toward Vasai Virar to evade capture.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam stated that the attack appeared to be a premeditated robbery. The suspect reportedly gained access to Khanโs apartment through the fire escape staircase and demanded โน1 crore from the actor.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 am on Thursday, January 16. The intruder confronted Khanโs housekeeper inside the apartment, and when Khan intervened to protect his family and staff, he sustained multiple stab wounds, including a severe injury to his thoracic spinal cord.
The actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he underwent emergency surgery to remove a 2.5-inch knife lodged in his spine and to treat a spinal fluid leak.
The housekeeper also suffered injuries during the altercation. She was attacked with a hexa blade and sustained deep cuts on her wrists and hands while trying to defend herself.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Bollywood community, with fans and fellow celebrities expressing outrage and concern over the attack.
