Traffic Disruptions Intensify After Deadly Protests
Karachi Traffic Police closed multiple roads in the city’s West and South districts on Monday amid heightened security concerns. The move followed nationwide protests over the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli strikes, which left 10 people dead in Karachi and two in Islamabad.
Law enforcement agencies used teargas and baton charges to disperse demonstrators as unrest spread. Meanwhile, authorities extended Section 144 across Sindh to restrict public gatherings.
At 8:51am, officials shut both sides of the road from Sultanabad Traffic Section toward Mai Kolachi, as well as both sides of MT Khan Road from Jinnah Bridge to PIDC. Police diverted traffic from Jinnah Bridge to II Chundrigar Road. Authorities also redirected vehicles from Boat Basin at Mai Kolachi phatak and turned back traffic from PIDC at Park cut.
Later, at 9:48am, police closed both sides of Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road from PIDC Chowk toward the State Life Building. Officials rerouted traffic from State Life toward Beaumont Plaza and redirected vehicles from PIDC to Club Road.
Capital Tightens Access to Red Zone
Islamabad Police also restricted entry to the Red Zone. Authorities kept Margalla Road and the route via Islamabad Marriott Hotel open, while closing other access points.
Police advised commuters from Club Road to use Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue and Margalla Road. Similarly, travelers from Bhara Kahu were directed through Srinagar Highway and Seventh Avenue.
Officials urged citizens to contact helplines 15 and 1915 for assistance and tune into FM channels for live updates as police managed traffic flow.
