ISLAMABAD: Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), has made it clear that there is no formal electoral alliance with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Instead, the discussions between the two parties have focused on supporting each other to ensure fair and transparent elections in Pakistan.
In an interview with a private TV channel, Dr. Siddiqui emphasized that the joint declaration resulting from the meeting with the PML-N leadership did not mention the formation of an electoral alliance. He provided insights into the discussions held with various political leaders, including Nawaz Sharif, and highlighted the historical context of MQM’s interactions with different political elites.
Dr. Siddiqui stressed that talks about jointly contesting elections, forming a government, and deciding on the chief minister’s role have not taken place. He noted that MQM-P traditionally does not enter into electoral alliances but may consider seat adjustments, although such arrangements have not been finalized at this stage.
Regarding specific government positions, Dr. Siddiqui stated that discussions about the chief minister and ministries were not part of the agenda, and his party may not include such matters in their agreements at this time.
Dr. Siddiqui reflected on the positive atmosphere of the meeting and highlighted the crises facing Pakistan, emphasizing the need for cooperation and the development of a joint strategy. He made it clear that discussions about contesting elections together, forming a government, and determining the chief minister’s role were premature and would require further deliberation to determine the extent of this cooperation.
