Karachi residents enjoy cooler weather amid fresh showers: Islamabad and Rawalpindi brace for continued rain, landslide risks
Rainfall continued to affect different parts of Pakistan on Monday, bringing much-needed relief from the intense summer heat while also causing severe disruption. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings of further heavy rainfall across multiple provinces. Officials have urged citizens to remain cautious and adopt safety measures during the spell.
Karachi
Several areas of Karachi, including Saddar, Guru Mandir, Lasbela, Golimar, and Nazimabad, received rainfall early in the morning. The showers provided residents temporary relief from the recent heatwave. Light rain also fell in Shara-e-Faisal, Defence, Qayyumabad, and Korangi, creating a pleasant atmosphere. However, the PMD has forecast heavy rain in the city over the next two days. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to possible urban flooding.
Hyderabad
Intermittent rainfall continued overnight in Hyderabad, flooding multiple neighborhoods. The heavy downpour triggered widespread power outages across the city. In response, the Deputy Commissioner announced that all public and private educational institutions would remain closed for the day. Authorities are closely monitoring the worsening conditions and have appealed to residents to stay indoors whenever possible.
Thatta
Thatta has experienced some of the heaviest impact from relentless rainfall. The overwhelmed drainage system has left several low-lying areas submerged. Flood victims, already displaced from their homes, are struggling to survive under the open sky. Relief operations remain overstretched, while continuous rain worsens the crisis. Officials describe the situation as critical and stress the urgent need for additional humanitarian assistance.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi
In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, partly cloudy conditions are expected today, with scattered showers across different areas. The PMD predicts continued rainfall in Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, persistent rain raises the risk of landslides in mountainous regions. Emergency services have been placed on high alert to respond quickly to any incidents.
