SYLHET: Afghanistan cricket star Mohammad Nabi and his 19-year-old son, Hassan Eisakhil, made history on Sunday by becoming the first father-son duo to bat together in a T20 match. The historic moment occurred during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26 fixture between Noakhali Express and Dhaka Capitals.
Hassan Eisakhil made his BPL debut in style, receiving his cap from his father before the 22nd fixture of the tournament. Opening the innings for Noakhali Express, the young cricketer was in brilliant form, top-scoring for his team with 92 runs off 60 balls. His innings included five sixes and seven fours, helping Noakhali Express post a competitive 184-7 at the end of their 20 overs.
Historic Father-Son Partnership
The historic batting moment came in the 13th over, after Habibur Rahman Sohan was dismissed. At this point, Noakhali Express were 119-3, and Mohammad Nabi walked to the crease to join his son. For the first time in T20 cricket history, a father and son shared the batting crease.
The duo stitched a 53-run partnership, taking the score to 172 by the end of the 18th over. Eisakhil did most of the scoring, while Nabi contributed a steady 17 runs from 13 balls, including two well-timed fours. Fans celebrated the milestone as a unique moment in cricket history, highlighting the bond between the two players on and off the field.
Previous Father-Son and Parent-Child Milestones
While this was the first instance in T20 cricket, other parent-child duos have made their mark in cricket before. In November 2025, Timor-Lesteโs Suhail Sattar and Yahya Suhail became the first father-son pair to play together in an international match during Timor-Lesteโs debut against Indonesia in Bali.
Similarly, Switzerlandโs womenโs cricket team featured a mother-daughter duo, Metty Fernandes and Naina Metty Saju, who played six T20 internationals together in 2025. In first-class cricket, legendary West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and his son Tagenarine played 11 matches for Guyana, with Shivnarine even captaining his son against Windward Islands at Providence Stadium in March 2014.
Mohammad Nabi and Hassan Eisakhil had previously faced off in Afghanistanโs Shpageeza Cricket League final, where father and son opposed each other on the field. This time, however, they shared the crease, creating a historic and emotional cricketing moment that fans will remember for years to come.
The partnership not only showcased Eisakhilโs talent but also underscored the legacy of Mohammad Nabi in Afghanistan cricket. Cricket enthusiasts hailed the moment as a testament to family tradition, skill, and passion for the sport.
