Former England cricketer Moeen Ali has announced his return to the Pakistan Super League (PSL), expressing excitement about being part of what he called the league’s “new era.” Following the 10th edition of the PSL earlier this year, the tournament is set to expand to eight teams with the addition of two new franchises, offering fans more competitive cricket and diverse talent across the league.
Moeen previously played in the PSL representing Multan Sultans during the 2020 and 2021 editions, and he is eager to rejoin the marquee tournament. “I’m really excited to be joining HBL PSL in its New Era. The league has earned a reputation for top-level T20 cricket, with high-quality competition and world-class talent across every team,” he wrote on Instagram.
The 38-year-old all-rounder enjoyed a distinguished career with England, representing the national team in 68 Tests, 138 ODIs, and 92 T20Is. He was also part of the historic England tour of Pakistan in 2022, playing a three-match Test series, and has visited the country on several occasions for cricketing engagements.
Reflecting on his experiences in Pakistan, Moeen praised the quality of cricket and the passion of the crowd, which he said motivates players to perform at their best. “Playing in Pakistan is always incredible; quality of cricket is outstanding and the passion and intensity from the crowd push you to bring your best,” he added.
Moeen concluded by looking forward to creating new memories during the upcoming season, stating, “I’m looking forward to being part of it all and creating some great memories along the way. Ready for another special experience Insha’Allah!”
His announcement comes shortly after former South African captain Faf du Plessis opted out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to participate in the upcoming PSL season. On November 29, Faf confirmed on Instagram that he would not enter the IPL auction this year, emphasizing the significance of his decision and expressing gratitude for his career.
Moeen’s return adds experience and star power to the PSL, further enhancing the league’s reputation as a competitive and entertaining platform for T20 cricket.
