Lahore Police have officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) against model Azbia Khan and photographer Zain Shah following allegations that they filmed an indecent video inside the historic Wazir Khan Mosque, a landmark in Lahore renowned for its architectural and cultural significance.
The FIR was lodged at Akbari Gate Police Station based on a complaint filed by Muhammad Owais, an official of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), which oversees the preservation and management of heritage sites in the city.
According to the complaint, the video was recorded without obtaining prior permission from the relevant authorities, a requirement for any filming activity within the mosque premises. The complainant highlighted that both individuals were reportedly dressed in “inappropriate attire” during the recording, which contravened the mosque’s sanctity and the norms expected in such a religious and historical site.
The unauthorized act, the complaint stated, not only disrespected the mosque’s sacred status but also harmed the reputation of the WCLA as a regulatory authority responsible for maintaining decorum and safeguarding heritage sites.
The FIR followed the circulation of the video clip on social media, which drew widespread public attention and criticism. The incident reportedly took place four days prior to the complaint being lodged. According to police officials, the social media response was swift, amplifying public outrage and putting pressure on law enforcement to take immediate action against those involved.
Authorities have emphasized that the mosque, which is centuries old and considered a symbol of Lahore’s rich cultural and religious heritage, must be respected by all visitors. Any activity that violates its sanctity, including filming content deemed inappropriate, can result in legal action under relevant laws protecting religious sites and public decency.
The case is currently under investigation, and police have confirmed that Azbia Khan and Zain Shah are being held accountable for their actions. Officials have urged the public to refrain from sharing such content online, highlighting that it not only breaches religious sentiments but also interferes with ongoing investigations.
The WCLA and law enforcement authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding historical and religious sites from misuse and ensuring that all activities within such premises comply with legal and ethical standards.
