ISLAMABAD: The official X account (formerly Twitter) of Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs was hacked late last night, the ministry confirmed in a statement. A spokesperson clarified that any content posted during the breach does not reflect the ministry’s views or policies.
The spokesperson added that relevant cybersecurity authorities have been alerted and efforts are currently underway to recover the compromised account. The public has been advised to ignore all recent posts made during the unauthorized access.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, also confirmed the incident via her own X account, expressing concern over the breach and reaffirming the government’s commitment to bolstering digital security.
The hacking incident comes amid heightened regional tensions, with the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (PakCERT) having recently issued a cybersecurity advisory. The warning urged government agencies to remain vigilant against potential cyberattacks, particularly in light of the escalating conflict between Pakistan and India.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation, while cybersecurity teams are working to secure the account and strengthen defenses against future threats.
