In a fervent address to the media in Karachi, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman launched scathing criticism against the legitimacy of the current parliament, alleging extensive rigging as the underlying factor behind its formation.
Fazlur Rehman vehemently declared that the prevailing democracy is losing its essence, with parliament dwindling in significance and failing to reflect the true representation of the populace. He asserted that the current assembly does not accurately represent the people, denouncing it as lacking in legitimacy and public mandate.
Highlighting what he perceived as a surge in electoral malpractices, Maulana Fazlur Rehman claimed that the rigging witnessed in the 2024 elections surpassed levels seen in 2018, casting doubt on the fairness and integrity of the electoral process. He adamantly rejected the prevailing conditions and vowed to continue challenging what he sees as injustices.
Emphasizing the need for a nationwide movement against perceived injustices, Maulana Fazlur Rehman asserted the rejection of election results across the country. He pledged to mobilize the entire nation against what he views as blatant disregard for the rights of the people, signaling a firm stance against what he perceives as electoral irregularities.
Addressing power dynamics within the parliament, Maulana Fazlur Rehman accused certain individuals of treating seats of power as personal fiefdoms and attempting to manipulate the legislative process through financial means. He boldly proclaimed readiness to confront such practices if assemblies are to be run based on money.
While advocating for freedom of expression within constitutional bounds, Maulana Fazlur Rehman highlighted the growing disillusionment among the youth and the general populace with the current state of affairs. He expressed deep disappointment with the functioning of the parliament, reflecting broader sentiments of discontentment within the political landscape.
