Guinness World Record holder David ‘Record Breaker’ Rush has once again lived up to his name after successfully completing a half marathon in Idaho while wearing 137 T-shirts, reclaiming a title he had previously lost. Rush, known for setting more than 250 world records, pushed his physical limits to win back this unusual but impressive achievement.
Rush originally set the record in 2019 by running 21 kilometers with 111 T-shirts layered on his body. However, his record was overtaken when another runner completed the feat wearing 127 T-shirts, motivating Rush to attempt a comeback.
Intense Training for an Unusual Challenge
To prepare for the attempt, Rush committed to rigorous and unconventional training. He spent weeks running in heavy layers of clothing to simulate the weight and heat he would face on race day. He also trained using weighted bags to strengthen his endurance and improve his ability to manage restricted movement.
His first comeback attempt, during a previous Idaho Potato Half Marathon, ended in disappointment when he managed only 114 shirts before withdrawing due to restricted blood flow in his neck. The excessive pressure made it unsafe to continue, forcing him to pause his record pursuit.
A Triumphant Return to the Idaho Potato Half Marathon
This year, Rush returned to the same event with better preparation, improved strategy, and greater resilience. Layered in 137 T-shirts, he completed the entire half marathon—despite limited mobility, excessive heat, and the immense weight of the shirts.
Reflecting on the achievement, Rush said reclaiming the record after multiple attempts felt especially rewarding. “I’m thrilled I didn’t give up. It took determination, creativity, endurance, and of course, a lot of T-shirts,” he shared after crossing the finish line. His perseverance has now earned him yet another Guinness title, proving once again why he is widely known as the “Record Breaker.”
