ISLAMABAD: In a major step toward positioning tourism as a central pillar of Pakistan’s economic diversification strategy, the Senate of Pakistan held a high-profile meeting with the Malam Jabba International Advisory Board on October 16, 2025, at Parliament House.
The session underscored tourism’s role not merely as a commercial sector but as a driver of cultural diplomacy, job creation, and sustainable development across the country.
Tourism Growth Reflects Rising Global Confidence
Encouraging statistics presented during the meeting revealed a significant surge in international tourist arrivals, while domestic tourism also witnessed robust expansion as more Pakistanis explored the country’s scenic and cultural attractions.
These trends reflect renewed international confidence and the government’s ongoing commitment to creating a conducive environment for tourism investment and growth.
Malam Jabba Recognized as Model of Sustainable Tourism
The Malam Jabba project was spotlighted as a model of sustainable tourism development, integrating natural beauty, adventure sports, and local cultural experiences.
The initiative exemplifies how public facilitation, private sector innovation, and community participation can work together to create jobs and stimulate regional economies while preserving the environment.
International Delegates and Investors Attend
The gathering featured notable global and national participants, including Lord Amir Sarfaraz of Kensington from the UK House of Lords and General Patrick Sander, whose insights were commended as valuable contributions to the Advisory Board’s discussions.
Lord Sarfaraz’s participation was particularly recognized for his advocacy of Pakistan–UK relations and efforts to strengthen bilateral understanding and investment cooperation.
UK-based investors were specially invited to explore tourism and hospitality opportunities in Pakistan, with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) highlighted as a one-window platform to streamline foreign investment processes.
Parliamentary Support and Climate Emphasis
The Senate leadership reaffirmed its commitment to advancing tourism through legislative measures, oversight, and diplomatic outreach.
Senator Sherry Rehman, Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change, emphasized that tourism fosters cultural understanding and global connectivity, serving as a soft power tool to promote a positive image of Pakistan abroad.
Pakistan’s Expanding Role in Parliamentary Diplomacy
Ambassador to the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), Ms. Misbah Khar, briefed attendees on the upcoming ISC in November 2025, which will host speakers from 45 countries under the theme “Peace, Security and Development.”
The conference aims to enhance Pakistan’s leadership role in international parliamentary diplomacy, promoting dialogue on shared global challenges and opportunities.
Future Roadmap for Sector Growth
Looking ahead, the Senate emphasized parallel initiatives to upgrade infrastructure, improve accessibility, and enhance service quality to attract more international travelers and solidify Pakistan’s position on the global tourism map.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation that tourism is a strategic enabler of national progress, requiring coordinated policy coherence across institutions and sustained government support.
