ISLAMABAD: A major sexual harassment scandal has rocked Malakand University, leading to the arrest of a professor following a studentโs complaint. The university administration has also suspended the accused professor.
The incident has sparked outrage among government officials, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressing deep concern.
Legal Action and Investigation
According to Levies sources, the case was registered at Baizai police station against Professor Abdul Haseeb from the Pakistan Studies department. Law enforcement officials confirmed recovering a large number of videos and images of female students from the suspectโs possession.
The professor is scheduled to appear in court on February 18, facing charges under relevant legal provisions.
In response, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has ordered an investigation, forming a four-member inquiry committee led by the chief secretary. Governor Kundi also condemned the incident, calling for a transparent probe by local authorities, police, and university officials.
โThis disgraceful act hinders womenโs progress in education and society. Our cultural values do not tolerate such behavior, and strict action must be taken against those who exploit students,โ Kundi stated.
University Responds to Harassment Allegations
Malakand University issued a statement confirming the professorโs suspension and revealed that the accused had allegedly attempted to marry the student by visiting her home.
The universityโs Anti-Harassment Committee convened to hear the complainantโs statement, and the case has been forwarded to the syndicate for disciplinary action. A university spokesperson assured that an impartial investigation would be conducted, stating:
โThe university upholds a zero-tolerance policy against harassment, and all available evidence will be considered to ensure justice.โ
Meanwhile, law enforcement has transferred the professor to jail. His court hearing on February 18 is expected to be a critical moment in holding offenders accountable within Pakistanโs higher education system.
